The Premier gets red hot

Last day, Manchester City was not able to take advantage of Arsenal’s puncture. Arteta’s men had been defeated on their visit to Everton, but the citizens fell in turn, against Tottenham. History repeated itself this day, Arsenal played on Saturday and drew one against Brentford in a duel charged with controversy. After the game, the English refereeing group recognized that a VAR failure had caused the lines to not be thrown correctly in the Brentford goal. The goal went up on the scoreboard and Arsenal is deprived of two points that could ultimately be decisive in the fight for the title.

On Sunday, City played, receiving Emery’s Aston Villa. Guardiola’s men gave them no chance and scored three goals in a splendid first half, in which they reached the football level of previous seasons. Watkins’ goal after a mistake at the start of City enlivened the match, but the villains failed to get the second goal that could have put fear into the body of the locals. With one more game, City is three points behind Arsenal. This Wednesday both will face each other in the postponed duel of matchday twelve, the most anticipated match of the year in England, which, due to different circumstances, has been hard to come by.

The great beneficiary of the day is Manchester United. Their victory at Elland Road against Leeds (0-2), allows Ten-Hag’s men to even dream of the league title. It is true that they have played two games more than Arsenal and one more than their neighbors, but the reality is that today the distance between the red-devils and the leader is only five points. In addition, their rivals for the Champions League were not able to win. Newcastle drew against Bournemouth (1-1) and Tottenham fell to a thrashing against Leicester (4-1). Howe’s men have only lost one game all year, but they already have eleven draws, the most in the entire Premier, and they are losing United’s wake.

More worrisome is the situation of Conte’s team, which does not manage to be regular in its game or in its results. Further away, but with the same objective is the renewed Chelsea, who visited West Ham with up to five winter signings in their starting eleven. The sensations were good, especially those transmitted by Enzo Fernández and João Felix. The Argentine seems to have been in the Premier for a decade, while the Portuguese is seen playing naturally, in a system that allows him to unleash his talent. Despite all this, Chelsea tied once again (1-1), and the Champions League places seem increasingly distant. On Monday the day closes with a beautiful Merseyside derby, to which the two contenders, Liverpool and Everton, arrive urgently.

It would be A:

Napoli continue their triumphant march towards the scudetto. Their rival on this occasion was the bottom team, Cremonese, and Spalletti’s men showed no mercy to the Lombard team. They won 3-0 with goals from the fashionable couple in Europe. Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring and Oshimen made the second at the hour of the game. Elmas closed the win with ten minutes to go and the Neapolitans are sixteen points behind Inter, who will play their game this Monday against Sampdoria. In the fight for the Champions League, Milan achieved a balsamic victory against Torino (1-0) that partly makes us forget the ills of the rossonero team.

Lazio, lost in a direct duel against Atalanta (0-2), which allows Pioli’s team to be in fifth position. La Dea, for its part, leads Roma, who did not go beyond a draw against Lecce (1-1), although Mourinho’s men remain in Champions League positions. Juventus won their match against Fiorentina (1-0) with a goal from Rabiot, who kept the ghosts of relegation away after his fifteen-point penalty. Allegri’s men are now twelve away from the Champions League and can still dream of a good run allowing them to get hooked on the top positions, in the most difficult season of the last decade for the Turin team.

Bundesliga

In Germany, the star duel of the day faced Leipzig and Unión Berlin. The two teams from East Germany represent the exact opposite. Leipzig is a team without a history, owned by a franchise that has invested large amounts of money to make the club one of the greats in Germany. The Union, on the other hand, is a modest team, owned by its partners, and whose fans deeply despise what is known as “modern football” that Leipzig embodies with all its being.

Also, in case the match needed more incentives, the fight for the Champions League was at stake. The victory was taken by the Union (1-2) which allows them to follow in the wake of Bayern. Naggelsman’s men also won, 3-0 against Bochum and come to their Champions League duel against PSG with better feelings. Dortmund won their game to establish themselves in third place, and right now they are, together with the Union, clear competitors for the Bundesliga title. The defeat of Leipizg takes the Red-Bull team out of the Champions League positions. His place is taken by Freiburg, who defeated Stuttgart (2-1). The victory allows the Black Forest team to continue dreaming of qualifying for the highest continental competition.

Ligue 1

The PSG thing can already be described as a crisis. Since the return of the break, Galtier’s team has been irregular in Ligue 1 and has been eliminated in the round of 16 of the French Cup. The icing on the cake came this weekend. With the squad affected by a stomach virus, Galtier had to line up an eleven with many youngsters and Monaco, led by a sensational Ben Yedder, showed no mercy (3-1). After the defeat, L’Equipe reveals that there were moments of tension in the dressing room, started by a discussion between Neymar and the sports director Luis Campos. Both Mbappé and Kimpembe made a call to remain united, but it is obvious that the atmosphere in the squad is not the best, three days after hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The defeat of the Parisians opens the options for Marseille, who beat Clermont (0-2) and is five points behind the leader. In third position is Monaco, after the defeat of Lens against Lyon (2-1). Lille won against Strasbourg (2-0) and gets into European positions, since Rennes was defeated by Toulouse (3-1). The one that continues its triumphant streak is Will Still’s Stade Reims, who thrashed Troyes (4-0) and already has eighteen games, between league and cup, without knowing defeat.
