Sergio Ramos has 180 caps for Spain, making him his country’s record capper. Although he would like to continue, no further game will be added. The new coach no longer plans with Ramos. He communicates this to the central defender in an undignified way.
Sergio ramos has won everything there is to win with the spanish national team. The tough central defender became world champion in 2010 and celebrated the European title in 2008 and 2012. In total, the 36-year-old played 180 international matches, more than any other Spaniard.
But for the last World Cup in Qatar, Ramos was no longer nominated by the then coach Luis Enrique. Now his hopes of a comeback for the national team under new coach Luis de la Fuente have been dashed – in an undignified way. Fuente did not seek a one-to-one conversation with the record national player, but only told him on the phone that he was no longer planning with Ramos.
“The time has come, the time to say goodbye to the national team, our beloved and exciting Roja. This morning I got a call from the current coach telling me that he is not counting on me and that he will not continue to do so, regardless of what level I can show or how I progress in my sporting career,” Ramos wrote Instagram.
Ramos did not hide his disappointment at the decision of the new coach, who took over from Enrique at the beginning of the year. “With great regret, this is the end of a journey that I had hoped would last longer and end with a better taste in the mouth,” he wrote.
Fuente plans with young players
Ramos, who had a poor year at Paris St. Germain last season, is back in good form. Fuente informed Ramos that regardless of his upcoming performances, he will no longer be part of the Spanish national team. The coach wants to build the upheaval and more on younger players.
“Being young or not so young is neither a virtue nor a flaw, it is just a passing trait not necessarily related to achievement or ability. The essence, tradition, values, meritocracy and justice in football. Unfortunately for me that won’t be the case because football isn’t always fair and football is never just football,” Ramos wrote.
