The London Derby between Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea in the Premier League is over. The Lilywhites silenced The Blues with a score of 2-0.
Competing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England, Sunday (26/2/2023), Tottenham vs Chelsea was tight. There were no goals in the first half, but there was drama from Hakim Ziyech’s commotion. The Chelsea winger was sent off for pushing Emerson Royal’s face during the fuss, but referee Stuart Atwell canceled it after checking the VAR.
Early in the second half, Tottenham scored. Oliver Skipp broke into the Chelsea goal, and brought the hosts a 1-0 lead.
After falling behind, Chelsea had a hard time catching up. There was no significant opportunity to be presented by Graham Potter’s troops. Tottenham’s victory lasted until the fight was over.
This result makes Tottenham while still safe in fourth place in the Premier League standings with 45 points from 25 matches. While Chelsea are still stuck in 10th position with 31 points.
Course of the Match
The match was tight from the start. Chelsea, who controlled the ball a lot, could threaten Tottenham Hotspur’s goal several times. First, through Hakim Ziyech’s attempt, which was blocked, then Joao Felix’s shot, which Fraser Foster managed to keep out.
Tottenham also occasionally pressed. However, some of his experiments have not led right to the goal.
In the 28th minute, Tottenham’s first on target opportunity almost immediately resulted in a goal. It comes from Pierre-Emile Hoejbjerg kick.
Receiving Richarlison’s hand, Hoejbjerg fired a shot from the front of the penalty box, but the ball hit the goalpost. The ball that was thrown up was then swept by Reece James off the field.
After that opportunity, there was no significant threat from the two teams. Chelsea had a chance through Raheem Sterling’s kick in the 44th minute, but Foster managed to push his effort away.
During injury time, there was even commotion that started from the struggle for the ball between Ziyech and Richarlison. The tension was heating up, and there was some pushing. Until finally, Ziyech pushed Emerson Royal in the face, and was rewarded with a red card.
Referee Stuart Atwell then checked the VAR, and canceled it, while replacing it with a yellow card. Ziyech was not expelled. The match continued, and finally the score lasted 0-0 until the halftime whistle sounded.
The second half continued, Tottenham Hotspur immediately got a goal. The host’s quick attack broke Chelsea’s goal.
Starting from an attack that was built to the right side, Emerson Royal was able to shoot a shot which was pushed over by Kepa, and the ball was then thrown away.
However, the ball was reclaimed by Oliver Skipp outside the penalty box. Getting a good shooting space, the Tottenham midfielder immediately kicked off and sent the ball into the Chelsea goal. Kepa, who had risen, failed to block the ball which was fast enough. Tottenham won 1-0 over Chelsea.
Left behind to make it difficult for Chelsea. There are no significant threats presented on the field, minimal creativity, and a back row that is still easy to exploit.
Even Tottenham who can increase the advantage. In the 82nd minute, Harry Kane increased the score to 2-0 for Tottenham. Starting from Son Heung-min’s corner kick, Eric Dier’s header at the far post Kane could turn into a goal.
In the remaining time of the game, no additional goals are created. Tottenham won 2-0 over Chelsea in the second London Derby game this season, after the first meeting ended in a draw last August.
