Tennis: Sabine Lisicki with wild card for Bett1 Open in Berlin – plan for the future – TENNIS

No Bett1 Open without Sabine Lisicki (33)! Also this year, the Berliner will hit the dog’s throat at the WTA tournament.

The 2013 Wimbledon finalist will receive a wild card for the June 17-25 event. Lisicki, currently number 299 in the world: “I can hardly wait to be in the main field in Berlin.” And organizer Edwin Weindorfer (55) emphasizes: “Sabine deserves that, that’s the plan.”

Lisicki wants to attack again: “I played well in the first two tournaments of the year. The 2022 balance sheet was also impressive. But there are few points in small tournaments, so wild cards are very important for the bigger tournaments.”

After a very serious knee injury and a break of 18 months, she only returned to the tour a year ago. “It was actually no longer possible to be a tennis pro. But it’s nice to be back on the pitch,” said Lisicki.

Spoke it up and organized a serve competition with a school class from Köpenick. At 210.8 km/h, Lisicki holds the world record for the fastest women’s service. Even men rarely serve that fast.

Lisicki then presented himself easily in front of the Brandenburg Gate and played a few balls over a mini-net. “I will fly back to Florida for training and after the hard court season I will also play on clay. And then you can continue on the grass,” she rejoices.

For this she first jets to Mallorca. “There are perfect grass pitches. You can train very well there,” she explains. She wants to savor that so that Berlin doesn’t remain her only tournament on grass. She is also hoping for a wild card in Bad Homburg.

According to Weindorfer, further stars for the Berlin tournament will be negotiated in March at the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami.
