Tennis: Djokovic diagnosis there! Proclamation causes a stir – TENNIS

Was he really that badly hurt or was he just faking it?

Novak Djokovic (35) polarized again with his Australian Open triumph. He started the tournament with a thickly bandaged left thigh, hobbled, took breaks from treatment in the matches – only to ultimately secure the title in Melbourne after losing just one set in seven games. His 10th there and his 22nd overall at Grand Slam level. Record set by Rafael Nadal (36).

Many fans didn’t believe his injury. Some media also expressed doubts. He played too well and too dominantly for such a physical handicap.

Melbourne tournament director Craig Tiley (61) sees it very differently. He defends the Serb and claims to know how bad Djokovic’s injury really was: “The guy I saw there, he had a three centimeter tear in his thigh. Really, I’ve seen the scans,” the South African told Australian radio station SEN Sportsday.

Australian sports doctor Peter Larkins expressed his doubts on the same show: “I wonder if Craig Tiley misinterpreted what he was told. I have a hard time believing it was a crack. He suspects: “It could have been an inflammation that was three centimeters in size.”

Tiley, who was keen to give Djokovic a start at the Australian Open last year, even though unvaccinated people were not allowed to enter the country at the time, continued: “It’s impressive that he handles things like this so professionally. Novak has many of his problems because he has a bad reputation. But at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone can question his athleticism.”

During the Australian Open, Djokovic had already complained about how he was treated and that he was not believed: “If some other players are injured, then they are the victims, but if it’s me, I fake it. It’s very interesting.”

Although he doesn’t really care what others think, he even considered providing evidence that he was really hurt. “I have the MRI, the ultrasound and more – both from two years ago (there were discussions about his abdominal muscle injury at the time, ed.) and now. Whether I’ll put that in my documentary or on social media depends on what I feel like doing.”

Apparently he feels like it. Because the number one in the world had recently announced: “You will find out everything in the next few days.”

Will the revelations then match Tiley’s statements? At least he announced: “The doctors will tell you the truth.” The truth that he claims to already know.
