Judo is a martial art, combat sport and self-defense that originated in Japan in the late 19th century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element. The goal is to throw the opponent to the ground, immobilize the opponent with a grapple, or force the opponent into submission with a joint lock or choke. The philosophy developed for judo becomes the model for almost all modern Japanese martial arts. The worldwide spread of Judo has spawned many branches, including Sambo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

For over a decade, our judo program has been proudly taught by Mike Arcuri, a fourth-degree judo black belt who has taught thousands of students and coached multiple national champions. Mr. Mike was assisted by several black belts, all of whom were obtained through team battles. We are accredited by USJF, USJA, American Judo and Kodokan Judo Headquarters of Japan.

Combat Judo is one of the best dojos I’ve trained in and definitely the best on Long Island.

Dr. Kano’s goal for Judo is to develop outstanding individuals. Combat judo is full of them.

I visited Combat Judo this summer for an international squad Dojo scrimmage against my kids’ current Dojo, the jamie towers judo club. I must say that Combat Judo has excellent instructors and is very knowledgeable about judo and other martial arts. “If” I lived on Long Island, this would definitely be my go-to.
