Six engine manufacturers, including Honda, have signed up for the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season, which will see new engine regulations, according to a list published by the International Automobile Federation on Friday shortly after Ford’s return to F1 was announced. alongside Red Bull.

In addition to the American car manufacturer, another big name in the car industry, Germany’s Audi, is also expected to make its debut in the top class of motorsport. He will be associated with the Sauber team (current Alfa Romeo).

Ferrari, Mercedes and Alpine, currently three of the four engine manufacturers present in the championship, will also be present at the start of the 2026 season, the year which will mark the arrival of new hybrid engines, with a greater share of electric.

If Red Bull and AlphaTauri have their powertrains now manufactured and developed in-house, within its dedicated entity “Red Bull Powertrains“, the two teams still benefit from technical assistance from Honda in the development of the engines until the end of 2025, before the agreement with Ford takes effect.

Until then, Honda could partner with an already existing team – or a new team to continue in F1, since the FIA ​​has launched a call for applications to welcome new teams to potentially increase the number of teams present. on the grid, currently ten.

For now, Mercedes not only powers its own cars but also Aston Martins, Williams and McLarens. Ferrari also powers Haas and Alfa Romeo, while Alpine only powers its two single-seaters.
