Six Nations: sustainable tournament,Fir first to be certified – Sport

(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 23 – The Six Nations, a sustainable and certified event, returns to Rome on Saturday with the Italy-Ireland match. The Italian rugby federation (Fir), the first sports federation in Italy to have obtained this recognition, has in fact been certified with the ISO 20121 international standard for the sustainable management of events. Fir is committed to implementing a system consistent with the sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. A system aimed at pursuing environmental and ethical-social goals in subsequent editions with a view to continuous improvement. Another important element is that relating to the ecological footprint, ie acting to reduce the direct and indirect impacts associated with the event, with particular attention to supplies, mobility, waste and CO2 emissions. The agreements signed with Trenitalia for national rail transport and the one with Atac Rome for local sustainable mobility go in this direction. With the claim “Choose the future. Travel sustainably”, the national team players and Atac staff invite the city to “do as they do” and use public transport to get to and from the stadium, actively contributing to the full sustainability of the event. Nations.

Fir is also committed to promoting new social initiatives and enhancing involvement activities for a better and more serene use of the event. At the same time, launch awareness-raising initiatives to increase the culture of sustainability in the main partners involved in the event and in the rugby movement.

But many other initiatives will be put in place for Italy-Ireland, such as the collaboration between Fir and the Istituto dei ciechi Milano Onlus, with a Fir volunteer who will support a fan of the Foundation by involving him in a complete experience that combines sports news with emotions live from the Olimpico lawn, and the European project dedicated to the recovery of adolescents and young adults with psychological discomfort who live in residential communities through Sport. The collaboration with Avis continues to make fans aware of blood donation. (HANDLE).
