Saudi International : Abraham Ancer s’impose devant Cameron Young

Before this Saudi International, Abraham Ancer has not won since August 2021 and his victory at WGC St Jude. With a final lap of 68 in Jeddah, the Mexican kicked off his season on the Asian Tour perfectly, winning the first tournament of the 2023 International Series.

Nine starts in a row for Ancer

Falling to 36th place in the world due to his defection from the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, the Texan by birth first compensated for his inaccuracy in driving and attacking greens with an imperial short game. Only a three-putt on the 9th hole cost him his only bogey of the game, a windfall that Cameron Young ultimately did not take advantage of.

Returning for a time tied with the Mexican, the New Yorker, rookie of the year 2022 on the American circuit, will sign a fatal double bogey in the 16th (lob shot too short then 3-putts at 4 meters). Author of nine pars in a row to finish his Sunday, Ancer will quietly ensure a par at 18 to ensure success, with a total of -19, two strokes ahead of Young.

The podium is completed by Lucas Herbert (65), who with a birdie at 18 broke away in extremis from a very good Sadom Kaewkanjana (66, -14). With his 67 final, Paul Casey offers himself a first top 5 counting for world points, since his podium at the Players Championship 2022. Next meeting with the Asian Tour on Thursday February 16 in Oman, always live on Equipe Live and Journal du Golf TV.
