Rui Costa wins the Valencian Volta in the last stage

MADRID, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Portuguese cyclist of Intermarché Circus Wanty Rui Costa prevailed this Sunday in the last stage of the Tour of the Valencian Community Gran Premi Banc Sabadell, ending in the Oceanogràfic, to snatch the general classification from the Italian Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo) for 16 seconds.

The outcome brought its dangers for the leader and the stage went crazy in the final kilometers. All the favorites for the general came in a small group and the smartest was Rui Costa. The Portuguese attacked, managed to distance himself from the rest along with Thymen Arensman and crossed the finish line with enough advantage to, along with the bonus, also take the overall.

Until the climb to La Frontera, the great attraction of the day, everything remained calm, with that breakaway from favourites, with 30 kilometers to go in Valencia. Rui Costa was the strongest and most determined to go for the stage victory and whatever he brought, with a perfect ally in Thymen Arensma, with no options in the general classification.

The tension from behind also left a fall that added uncertainty and chaos awaiting the decision of the commissioners on the time to assign, since the fall was within the last three kilometers. Tao Geoghegan Hart, involved in that crash, finished third overall, behind Costa and Ciccone.
