After a real soap opera, attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo (23 years old, 13 games and 1 goal in Serie A this season) ultimately did not leave AS Roma during the winter transfer window. Threatened by Roman supporters because of his refusal to join Bournemouth and dismissed by coach José Mourinho, the Italian international spoke.

“A lot of things have been said and written over the last few weeks that are not true. (…) The last few months have been a delicate time for me, where it was difficult for me to understand what my professional future. However, I have always worked hard on the pitch and in training with the utmost professionalism. For the first time, I was afraid, for myself and my family, and I felt abandoned. This had never happened to me before and I was terrified. The future is in our hands: I extend mine and put myself at the complete disposal of the Roma family,” Zaniolo said in a letter broadcast by ANSA.

Under contract until June 2024, the Transalpine therefore wishes to reintegrate the Roman group. Mourinho’s answer remains to be seen.
