Rodrigo Sanjurjo leaves Badminton A Estrada to join As Pontes

Club Badminton A Estrada has lost one of its most visible faces in recent years. Rodrigo Sanjurjo has left the team in which he played throughout his career to join the ranks of the new As Pontes Badminton Club, an entity that is promoted by his father and alma mater of the Estrada team for decades, Rodrigo Sanjurjo senior. Along with him, Nikol Carulla from Alicante, his partner in the mixed modality, also leaves Badminton A Estrada.

Sanjurjo was a bronze medalist with the national team last year in the Junior European Championship and was champion of the International of Spain in individual and mixed doubles. In December he was chosen as the best absolute athlete at the A Estrada Sports Gala.

The president of Badminton A Estrada, Jesús Pereiro, regretted the departure of both but stressed that the club regenerates year after year and that behind it come great promises that will take their place such as the brothers Iziar and Álex Barcala, Rubén Comerón or Darío Míguez . Precisely, in the past Master of Galicia Iziar Barcala took the silver in the individual, in addition to the silver with his brother, Álex, bronze in the individual. Manu Míguez was also silver in doubles, along with Hugo Salgueiro. In Sub 15, Darío Míguez won gold in men’s doubles.
