Great success for Cameron Norrie: The Brit won the ATP 500 event in Rio de Janeiro and thus won a tournament on clay for the second time in his career. In the final, the 27-year-old beat the reigning US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz 5: 7, 6: 4 and 7: 5. In a very strange way.

Alcaraz and Norrie had already faced each other in the final in Buenos Aires last Sunday, in Argentina the 19-year-old Spaniard won 6-3 and 7-5. Seven days later, Norrie got revenge. Also because Alcaraz struggled with major thigh problems from the middle of the second set.

In the first set, a break was enough for Alcaraz to make it 7:5. After that, the teenager seemed to quickly turn to winning ways, but Norrie won four games in a row and suddenly led 4-3. At this point, Alcaraz was already moving much worse than at the beginning of the match, but the Iberian should still be able to make the rebreak. Thanks to two game wins in a row, Norrie finally forced a third round.

In this a completely open exchange of blows developed. The spectators saw four breaks until the score was 5:5, after which Norrie struck again. And served to win despite minor problems. After 2:41 hours of play, he converted his second match point with an ace into a three-set success.
