Real Madrid celebrated a 2-0 home win against Valencia in the supplementary game of the 17th round of the Spanish championship. Marco Asensio (52nd) and Vinicius Junior (54th) shot the “Royal” twice after the break on Thursday evening to three points.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who again had to do without ÖFB team defender David Alaba because of his calf injury, are now five points behind leaders FC Barcelona, who won 2-1 at Betis Sevilla on Wednesday.
Stragglers Valencia, who saw Gabriel Paulista red in the 72nd minute, remain in 14th place.
Barca miss transfer by 18 seconds
Due to an 18-second delay, Julian Araujo’s move to FC Barcelona didn’t go through on the last day of the transfer window. Barca’s football director Mateu Alemany explained this to a Spanish media outlet. “We couldn’t register due to a system error, it was only 18 seconds,” Alemany was quoted as saying. At the same time, he assured that he would investigate the matter with the world association (FIFA).
The 21-year-old right-back Araujo was supposed to switch from the MLS team LA Galaxy to the Catalans for around six million euros. It would have been the only access this winter.
