Professional League: Lanús beat San Lorenzo and is the leader | The maroon team held on with nine men and an improvised goalkeeper

Lanús scored a triumph with epic overtones to position himself as the sole leader of the tournament, with the ideal score, at least until the end of the day. With a purely effective first half in which they took two goals ahead and with a second half in which they held on for the result, Frank Kudelka’s team beat San Lorenzo 2-1, despite finishing the match with nine men and with Leandro Díaz as an impromptu goalkeeper.

The “Cyclone” had an acceptable start but a penalty detected by the VAR changed the trend of the match. The World Cup player Facundo Tello, called by Silvio Trucco, went to the screen and sanctioned a stomp from the Colombian Rafael Pérez on “Laucha” Acosta. This action upset San Lorenzo and served for Lanús to resolve the match in a span of six minutes, between the penalty scored by Leandro Díaz and the great goal by Matías Esquivel, one of the figures of the night, with a shot from elevation.

San Lorenzo only changed the image in the second half, when Insúa’s variants gave results. In that period, he improved his collective functioning and took over the process of the game, but he showed a repetitive flaw when closing each offensive action. For one reason or another, he was never finished unlike a highly profitable rival.

Even with an improvised goalkeeper like Leandro Díaz due to the expulsion of Díaz, Insúa’s team had difficulties kicking on goal, in short, a very big conditioning for their aspirations for leadership. Blandi’s goal in stoppage time and Boggio’s red card put the end of the game on hold, although Lanús held on well to celebrate the victory and the top of the tournament.
