Pau Gasol, ambassador of the 2023 Basketball World Cup

Pau Gasolone of the best Spanish players of all time, has been named global ambassador for the 2023 Basketball World Cup, which will start in 200 days in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

Gasol is a perfect connoisseur of the competition and already excelled in his first World Cup in 2002 in Indianapolis, leading Spain to fifth place and finishing the tournament as the sixth leading scorer with an average of more than 19 points per game.

His big moment with the national team came when he led Spain to glory at the 2006 World Cup in Japan. His performance in that competition was so prolific, averaging 21.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game on an impressive 63.1% shooting from the field, that he was named tournament MVP despite missing the final due to injury. .

In his last World Cup appearance, the World Cup held in Spain in 2014, Gasol led the national team in a streak of six straight victories until elimination in the quarterfinals against France. His great performance allowed him to once again enter the ideal five of the tournament.

In total, Gasol participated in three World Cups, five Olympic Games and seven Eurobaskets.

He was also part of the ideal quintet when Spain was a finalist in the EuroBasket in 2003 and 2007, as well as when he obtained third place in 2001 and 2017.
