Panamanian bishops address issues of migration, security, reality and electoral process in assembly

The Pope’s Nuncio in Panama, Monsignor Dagoberto Campos Salas, encouraged the bishops to continue serving the Panamanian people with simplicity.

On the national reality, on this first day were the director of the School of Sociology of the University of Panama, José Clemente Lasso, who made an analysis of the difficult situation that the country is experiencing post-pandemic and in this context how the electoral process that will take place in 2024 is envisioned, explained Monsignor Ochogavía.

Regarding the migratory crisis, Monsignor Manuel stressed, the National Director of Migration, Samira Gozaine, told them that migrants have grown from five thousand in 2022 to thirty thousand migrants by January 2023 and thanked the support that the Catholic Church has been offering with their homes to address this situation.

He also made reference to the participation of the Minister of Security, Juan Pino, on violence and the increase in drug trafficking; and the Minister of Social Development, María Inés Castillo, who presented the mapping that they have carried out of the social works of the Church, which contributes to the care of children, youth and vulnerable people.
