No World Cup for DFB goalkeeper: Almuth Schult is pregnant

NNational goalkeeper Almuth Schult is pregnant again three years after giving birth to her twins. “My family is very happy that we are expecting children again,” the 31-year-old told NDR: “The death of my father-in-law in December made our family very sad and was very emotional for us. Pregnancy makes us all look happier to the future. Fate sometimes has something positive for you, even in difficult times.”

The offspring of the former VfL Wolfsburg goalkeeper is due to be born at the end of August. The World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will therefore take place in the summer without them. “I will miss a major tournament for the first time since 2011. But the reason for this couldn’t be nicer,” stressed Schult. After a six-month detour to Club Angel City FC in Los Angeles, she had recently declared that she did not want to sign a new contract with a club for the time being.

“We congratulate Almuth on her pregnancy and wish her and her family all the best for the coming time!” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, emphasizing how important Schult is for the national team: “In the past three years she has been on impressive way of taking on many challenges and new roles in the national team.”

However, the repeated baby break should not be the end of the career. “I would like to continue my football career after the pregnancy and the birth,” said Schult: “But of course we have to see how well that fits with the new challenges in family life.” follow TV expert.
