PHILADELPHIA — When the Eagles picked Jalen Hurts in 2020, they already had $128 million spent on quarterback Carson. They certainly had more pressing needs.

Three seasons later, there’s no question in Philadelphia that drafting Hurts was the right decision.

The club is one win away from a second Super Bowl title, having won five years ago.

Hurts tied a team record with 33 total touchdowns this season. At only 24 years old, he seems on track to obtain a contract of approximately $ 50 million per season, of the type of that of 10 years granted to Patrick Mahomes, with Kansas City.

The Chiefs have been creative in finding ways to stay at an elite level despite Mahomes’ salary. The Eagles will have to do the same.

GM Howie Roseman has been brilliant lately at making the right draft, trade and contract choices. He will have to continue to deal well with the salary cap and find rare pearls in the draft.

That can wait, though. The Super Bowl is fast approaching.

“We want to play up to our standards,” Hurts said. It doesn’t change, no matter how big the game. »

Roseman was tricky on the Titans in last year’s draft. He made a deal to get wide end AJ Brown, unhappy with his contract at Tennessee. The Eagles sent two draft picks to the Titans for Brown. They immediately gave him a four-year, $100 million contract, with $57 million guaranteed.

Brown was worth the price: he brought out the best in Hurts. The two good close friends have obvious chemistry on the pitch. He rushed for 155 yards in his first game with the Eagles, en route to a season of 88 catches, 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.

DeVonta Smith posted similar numbers. Smith, a 2021 first-round pick, finished his second NFL season with 95 catches, a high for his position in Eagles history.

Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson have been part of the offensive line furniture for a decade.

A second-round pick in 2019, Miles Sanders has provided 1,269 rushing yards this season, including 11 touchdowns.

Dallas Goedert has become one of the best tight ends in the league.

In defense, Haason Reddick signed a three-year, $45m contract in March, $30m of which is guaranteed. He had 16 sacks during the season, then three and a half since the start of the playoffs.

Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox are veterans who helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl.
