Cuban judoka Maylín del Toro won today the bronze medal on the first day of the Grand Slam in Paris, France, defeating Canadian Chaterine Beauchemin by Ippon.

According to the site of the International Judo Federation, del Toro, weighing 63 kilograms, was knocked out by the northerner, after winning three fights and losing one to the Japanese Nami Nebekura, who later finished with the silver medal.

Maylín’s other three victories were on the fast track against the Hungarian Szofi Ozbas, the Portuguese Bárbara Timo and the Israeli Inbal Shemesh, in that order; the golden metal went to the Israeli Gili Sharir, and the other tan corresponded to the Polish Szymanska.

Today the Cubans Arnaes Odelín, Blanca Elena Cabrera, Zamarit Gregorio Vasconsuelo, Orlando Polanco and Magdiel Estrada also climbed the Parisian tatami mats, but none reached the podium.
