The Vice President of INDER, Omar Venegas Echemendía, evaluated the preparations for the celebration of the national and international events that the Yumurino territory will host in the next two months. In addition, he was interested in the assembly of the lighting of the Victoria de Girón, which in a few months will be the best illuminated stadium in the country.
The IV Varadero Half Marathon will have the novelty that the 42 km will be run, in addition to the usual distances of 21, 10 and 3. The event will take place on Sunday, April 2. While the Pan American Judo Cup will take place from April 5 to 9 at the Hotel Internacional, located on the peninsula itself and will be attended by more than 400 athletes, about 300 of them will be foreigners.
Venegas Echemendía referred to the objective of his exchange with the Matanzas sports authorities. “It is to accompany you in the organization of these international events and we will follow up on the national competitions that are scheduled.”
Regarding the placement of the 160 leed lamps in the Victoria de Girón stadium, the manager said that it is urgent to prioritize the work for the placement of lighting, something that has been a claim from the fans of this province. “This will be a constant concern of the population, we already said that the lights are here and that we are going to work together to illuminate the facility. We have to make clear the resources that are needed and when it is expected that this object of work can be finished”.
The provincial director of sports, José Luis Gándara Martínez, commented on the situation that the 10 towers of the stadium present today and that prevent the locating of the lights. “We are looking for the resources that we lack to proceed with the placement of the lighting. We have to restore the towers, due to the level of deterioration that they have, especially in the steel”.
