Jérémy Chardy and Fabrice Martin stop in the semi-finals of the Australian Open

Their excellent end to the second set was not enough to launch them towards qualification: Jérémy Chardy and Fabrice Martin stopped in the semi-finals of the Australian Open doubles tournament, eliminated Thursday by the duo composed of the Pole Jan Zielinski and Monegasque Hugo Nys (6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in 1h48).

The Chardy-Martin pair thus narrowly missed out on their second Grand Slam final, after that of Roland-Garros 2019, lost against the Germans Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies. This Australian Open nevertheless remains a very good way, for Jérémy Chardy, 35, to have returned to competition after almost a year and a half of absence and a right knee operation: a second round in singles, a half in doubles and a third round for the player he coaches at the same time, Ugo Humbert.

Surprise guests in the final

“There is disappointment but I keep the pleasure of having played againsummarized Chardy. As the days went by, it became more and more physically difficult for me and Fabrice helped me a lot. We would have liked to win but it remains positive. I would have signed with both hands for such a scenario. »

In the doubles final, Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski will face the very amazing Australians Jason Kubler and Rinky Hijikata, invited by the organizers and only ranked, respectively, at 163rd and 277th place in the world, in doubles!
