Ice skater Zach Donohue awaits his Olympic medal

Nnothing is more relative than time. Especially if you wait. For example, Zach Donohue has been waiting so long for his medal that he’s forgotten he’s waiting.

Donohue is a figure skater, a member of the American team who, a year ago in Beijing, was already donning suits for the awards ceremony when she was told the awards ceremony would be cancelled.

At first he thought the cancellation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was a joke, Donohue told National Public Radio on the anniversary of the cancellation. No joke, but: Russian doping.

More precisely: the news of the positive test of the then 15-year-old miracle runner Kamila Valiyeva. Since then, Donohue has been waiting, and when an email comes up with an update, he remembers that he’s still waiting, whether he’s going to get silver or gold.

Valiyeva’s story

Which essentially depends on whether Valiyeva gets through with her explanation of the heart drug in the body – accidentally drunk from grandpa’s glass. Things are dragging on, but so far Valiyeva is doing well with her story.

It’s possible that the Russians will get gold. Where? Donohue said he heard many of those waiting wanted an awards ceremony at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. The IOC should like to hear it. Russian athletes should be on the guest list anyway.
