Hoffenheim hires coach André Breitenreiter

German Hoffenheim coach André Breitenreiter, whose contract expired in June 2024, has been sacked due to poor results, the Bundesliga club announced on twitter on Monday.

The former FC Zurich coach paid for a series of bad matches, the last of which ended on Saturday with a heavy defeat at Bochum (5-2) while the club occupies 14th place after 19 days.

“At home, Hoffenheim have lost five matches this season,” said TSG 1899 in a statement, which has not won any of its last ten matches.

The identity of the 49-year-old technician’s successor, who arrived in mid-2022, has not been revealed, but the name of the American Pellegrino Matarazzo, who has spent his entire career in Germany and is already part of the coaching staff at Hoffenheim, is mentioned in particular.

After Alfred Schreuder and Sebastian Hoeness, Breitenreiter is the third consecutive Hoffenheim manager to be sacked prematurely.
