He once scored against Barcelona, now Hoesen has to keep FC Emmen in the premier league

In the fight against relegation, FC Emmen has attracted a new striker with Danny Hoesen. Because the 32-year-old Hoesen is transfer-free, he can still sign with a new club after the transfer deadline has passed.

Hoesen signs a contract in Drenthe until the end of the season. FC Emmen is currently in sixteenth place in the Eredivisie.

Hoesen was considered a great talent at a young age, but he was never able to fully fulfill that promise. As a seventeen-year-old he exchanged Fortuna Sittard for the English Fulham.

Goal against Barcelona

A few years later, the fast attacker ended up at Ajax. His highlight in Amsterdam was his goal in the Champions League against FC Barcelona, with Ajax winning 2-1.

It was a sparse highlight. In 32 league matches, Hoesen only scored seven goals in Amsterdam. Via FC Groningen he ended up in the American MLS, where he played for San Jose Earthquakes and Austin FC. His contract with the latter club expired in January.

Emmen hopes that Hoesen can be of value with his experience. “We were still looking for more opportunities in the front, partly due to the many injuries. Danny was transfer-free now that the competition in America has ended. He is a fast and agile attacker who can also be important for our team with his experience,” says Emmen chairman Ronald Lubbers.
