Grandfather exclusively: They offered us turnip! Sparta treats its key players with disrespect

They should realize what the reality is and how it works. When players are out of contract at a given club, most agents go to the player’s current club first in 90 percent of cases. Only when the club says that they cannot offer more or the same amount of money, or that they can only offer a new one-year contract, does the agent usually go and offer his client elsewhere.

Was it like this with Košťálek, Říčka and Dvořák?

Exactly the same! Košťálek and Dvořák can confirm that they wanted to stay in Sparta, but the management did not want to give them appropriate contracts. I thought it was unfair to the boys. Players usually want to stay at the club they are active in, they don’t want to move. But when an interesting contract that they deserve does not come, they simply go elsewhere. The leadership of Sparta was unable to reach an agreement with them. I just find the banner of the Sparta fans very funny.

For what other reasons?

If I published the salaries of all three of our guys mentioned on the banner, half the players in Sparta are making more than them. Sparta has the most expensive player in the league! Simon and Tomášek take more than the most expensive player in Pardubice. And one more funny thing about Sparta…

A month ago, the agent of Michal Řepík (Sparta’s captain) came to us saying that Sparta, where his contract ends after the season, offered him a new undignified contract. Moreover, only for a year and they are delaying the signing even more because they want to wait. So they offered us Rape…

He is a quality player. We told him if he wanted to, let’s talk about it. I give this as an example so that Sparta fans know how their management feels about it. Now they praise their captain, but they only offered him a one-year contract. And then the fans will wonder if he could go to Pardubice…

Petr Ton on negotiations with Michal Řepík
Negotiations between Sparta and Michal Řepík on a new contract are ongoing. “We are trying to agree on the continuation of the multi-year contract. I believe that it is on the right track,” Sparta sports director Petr Ton said for the club’s website. According to Sport.cz, the agreement is close, the signing could come already during the national team break.

So what is Dynamo’s current position in relation to Řepík?

We will not be active. We said to get back to you and it hasn’t happened yet. I take it that Michal made an agreement with Sparta, or perhaps somewhere else. It went well with the banner. It just shows how Sparta treats its key players. They will say to their captain, one of the best players in the extra league, who decides the matches: “Contract for a maximum of one year and for the same money”. That’s why his agent called us if we didn’t want him, that Řepík was angry. Especially when he saw that we signed on three years of Robert Kousal, who helped us when we were at our worst. Michal also helped Sparta, but they treat him like this. That banner is simply not about Dynamo.

So, in your opinion, it is about the management of Sparta headed by its general manager Barbora Snopková Haberová?

About her and Peter Ton (sports director), who run the club. Their actions are not a coincidence when you consider that Říčka, Košťálek, Dvořák and Řepík each have a different agent. And the same thing happens to everyone. And about the banner – Sparta’s management must have known about it in advance, the fan clubs have them approved.

What was your first thought when you saw yourself on it as the legendary film character Bohumil Stejskal?

I smiled at that, even though I didn’t find it very funny. I have nothing against Sparta and I’m glad that the fans are having fun. I don’t really mind that kind of thing. I have already said several times that I represent our club and speak for it in public. Unfortunately some other owners don’t want to do that and just say; as they say; after a while. Everyone is very smart, but nobody wants to stand up for something.
