In the past few months, DAZN had annoyed its subscribers with extreme price increases. The increased costs even called consumer advocates into action. Now the streaming service offers at least football fans a whole new opportunity.

DAZN is changing its pricing model again. After the subscription costs have continued to increase in recent years, the streaming service is now introducing pay-per-view for the first time. This gives users the opportunity to pay for the transmission of individual sporting events without having to take out a subscription.

At least for the time being, however, the possibility is limited to one sport and two competitions: the Italian Serie A and the Ligue 1 from France. Games from the two soccer leagues can now be watched at a price of EUR 3.49 per game.

According to its own statements, the streaming service wants to correspond more to the zeitgeist with the new offer. According to a statement from the company, the company is “dealing even more with the changing viewing habits of the younger generation”.

DAZN shows more than 8000 live events in 2023

It is unclear whether the model will be extended to other competitions and sports in the future. DAZN now has a large portfolio. More than 8,000 live events per year can be accessed on the platform, including numerous football matches from the Bundesliga and various leagues in England, Italy, France and Spain. Likewise, the Champions League and US sports with American football, basketball and all darts events taking place in front of an audience. In addition, users can watch various sports channels such as Eurosport1 and Eurosport2 via the streaming service.

With the offer, however, the costs of the users also increased. The service said last year that the quality of the “supply, which has been greatly expanded since the start of the season, has been achieved and that it has positioned itself in the market structure with a reasonable price”.

A year ago, DAZN doubled its prices for all new and returning subscribers and received a lot of criticism for it. In the summer, the streaming platform followed suit with existing customers. Since August 1, 2022, this will cost 29.99 euros per month instead of the previous 14.99 euros. Without a subscription, the offer now even costs 39.99 euros per month.
