FC Bayern punished Julian Nagelsmann after referee trouble

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann got away with a mild sentence and no suspension after his verbal outburst last weekend in the Bundesliga. The DFB sports court only fined the 35-year-old 50,000 euros. As the German Football Association announced on Wednesday, the FC Bayern coach has already approved the verdict. Nagelsmann can also look after the record champions in the Bundesliga top game on Sunday (5.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on DAZN) against Union Berlin.

After the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach (2:3) last Saturday, Nagelsmann made unsportsmanlike comments to the referee team around Tobias Welz (Wiesbaden) in the dressing room. “Since he had not yet appeared before the sports court, apologized that same evening and also showed insight in the statement to the control committee, the committee refrained from applying for an indoor ban,” the message said.

The head coach of the record champions had apologized for his massive criticism of referee Welz the evening after the incident. Nagelsmann’s anger was triggered by a red card against Bayern’s French central defender Dayot Upemacano. In a ZDF interview, he admitted that when he broke out, the expression “softened pack” had also fallen. “Emotions are part of sport. And given the red card, I had to vent after the game. However, I have to apologize for the choice of words to the team around Tobias Welz. Unfortunately, I clearly went too far,” Nagelsmann later wrote in a statement.

Neymar probably misses Bayern second leg

Two weeks before the second leg of the Champions League at FC Bayern, opponents Paris Saint-Germain are threatened with the loss of their star player Neymar. “New investigations confirm that Neymar has sprained his ankle and suffered a ligament injury,” said the French top division club, without going into a possible duration of the absence. A further investigation is to take place early next week.

The Brazilian sustained the injury in Sunday’s 4-3 French championship win against OSC Lille in the Prinzenpark. Teammate Kylian Mbappé has already sent Neymar the best wishes for a recovery. “Stay strong. The team is waiting for you,” wrote the World Cup top scorer on Instagram.

According to a report in the French newspaper Le Parisien, PSG is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks. The 31-year-old would therefore miss the round of 16 second leg in Munich on March 8th. The Bundesliga club had won the first leg 1-0 in Paris.

Neymar is always plagued by ankle problems. He was also injured in the first group match against Serbia at the World Cup in Qatar and only returned to the team in the round of 16 against South Korea.
