Exponential growth by Yasin Harrus, president of the Ceuta Tennis Federation

Yasin Harrus is president of the Ceuta Tennis Federation. In this opinion column he reviews the work done in Ceuta tennis since 2016.

The expression exponential growth is applied to a magnitude such that its variation in time is proportional to its value, which implies that it grows faster and faster in time following a complicated mathematical formula, a science called exact backed by data and figures. Well then, Yasin Harrús, as president of the Ceuta Tennis Federation, can affirm that our sport has grown exponentially in our city as a result of commitment, responsible work, dedication and above all the enthusiasm towards a sport modality that has led Spanish sport to the greatest successes.

My first decision upon taking the reins of the FTC, was to plan an incentive program aimed at empowering the federation of new players, as well as the approval of a calendar of attractive, free, continuous competitions for all categories, both federated as amateurs for our federates. We went from four qualifying tournaments for the Spanish Championships in 2016 to 21 tournaments this season aimed at all ages, including local, national and international competitions. It is difficult to highlight some of them, but I can mention the celebration in our city of the National Master of the RPT-Brand Circuit “Junior Cup” and “Young Promises”, of the International Women’s Tournament “City of Ceuta”, which in this edition will increase its endowment in prizes of $25,000 or the IX Open Ciudad de Ceuta framed in the IBP circuit, without forgetting the Mapfre Touchtennis League where last season one of the 5 Leagues was organized in our City. Likewise, the plan to travel to competitions to the peninsula from Ceuta was created both for trips to tournaments for players individually or through the competition teams of the federation schools, with a trip to the tournament every two months at least. .

These performances made us grow in the number of federated players, from 2016 with 94 licenses to 345 licenses at the beginning of this year. Growth that posed us to balance the pyramid, and for this we also approved an aid plan that favored the realization of training courses, both outside and in our own city. For the first time, we organized two in Ceuta (RFET Chair/Line judges and RPT monitors). In short, we went from only two umpires to three and from 0 chair/line umpires to 11 judges, and from 5 technicians to 25 technicians between the different levels.

The creation of the Healthy Campaign by our territory, with the donation of tennis balls that are no longer used in schools and tournaments, to the different schools and institutes in the city with TEA classrooms to help reduce noise in classrooms and improve concentration in these students. As well as the continuous economic donations through the most important tests held in Ceuta and always through Solidarity Photographers of Ceuta to reach the most disadvantaged people, helped us to take an important leap at a social level.

Although our growth is not only the result of hard work, but also the support of the Government of the Autonomous City of Ceuta and sponsors. And of course, from our national president, Miguel Díaz Román. In fact, in these years we have had the honor of receiving it up to five times. In the last one, on the occasion of the celebration in our city of the Interterritorial Commission of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, accompanied by all the territorial presidents.

The president of the RPT, Luis Mediero, has been one of the people who has collaborated the most in the growth of our territory, with the National Brand Circuit and with the registration training courses. Without forgetting the visits of those who have held the general direction of the RFET in recent years, Miguel Ángel Martín and Lorenzo Martínez, as well as its sports director, Javier Soler, and the presidents of the Youth, Veteran, Beach Tennis or Teaching Committees ; Fernando Sacristán, Antoni Ferragut, Pablo Martínez and Sebastián Tobaruela. To Javier Viguera, coordinator of the RFET National Amateur Circuit and the president of the IBP Circuit, Francis Blanco together with his entire team during the celebration in Ceuta of the 2019 IBP Tennis Series National Master.

Support for which I am grateful from the depths of my heart, because it is well born to be grateful, and without a doubt, without the support of all of them, I would not have been able to achieve goals never dreamed of for tennis in Ceuta.

And I cannot finish this opinion without first thanking my team for the work carried out in all these years, a group of people as committed and excited as I am in a project, which has led our federation to occupy a privileged position not only at a local level but also nationally and internationally. In short, and according to the data and figures provided in this article, tennis in our city has experienced exponential growth.
