Eupen resists the Limburg leader and pockets a vital point in the race to maintain

The first half was lively and contested, with seven yellow cards handed out. From the start, Vandevoordt had to work on an attempt by N’dri (3rd). Genk responded with a long shot from El Khannous (6′).

The opener came from Paintsil, who slid the ball past the keeper after a sharp through pass from Heynen (0-1, 17′). Eupen reacted quickly, and the penalty caused by a foul from Ouattara was converted by Peeters in the middle of the goal (1-1, 26th).

Samatta could have restored the advantage to the Limburgers, found alone by a cross from the right, but his header did not really worry Moser (34th). N’dri, stirring since the start of the game, again crossed paths with Vandevoordt (45′) before Muñoz missed the target after a back pass from Paintsil (45’+1).

El Khannous was quick to show up after the break, blocked by the defense (53rd), but the second period was less eventful than the first. A free kick from Peeters captured by Vandevoordt (70th) was followed by a goal from Lambert canceled by video arbitration (72nd).

At the end of the match, Genk tried unsuccessfully to put pressure on Eupen, missing the opportunity to convert a confused phase in the opposing area (78th) followed by a free kick from Tresor close to the frame (83rd).

The gap between Genk (59 points) and Union Saint-Gilloise is now 7 points at the top of the standings. Eupen is still 15th but has a small lead over Zulte Waregem, the first relegation player.
