For Eintracht Frankfurt, Tuesday against Napoli in the Champions League is a new highlight on the program. But before the round of 16 first leg, there is a surprising fuss. Namely sports director Markus Krösche.

SAccording to information from the online magazine “The Athletic”, port board member Markus Krösche from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt is a possible candidate for the vacant post as sports director at Liverpool FC in the English Premier League. At the club coached by Jürgen Klopp, the previous sports director Julian Ward announced his departure at the end of the season last November. Since then, the Reds have been looking for a successor.

The 42-year-old Krösche switched from RB Leipzig to Eintracht within the Bundesliga in 2021, where he signed a contract that was valid until 2025. Since Krösche has been sports director in Frankfurt, the club has won the Europa League and has just reached the round of 16 in the Champions League this season. Eintracht will welcome Italian leaders SSC Napoli in the first leg on Tuesday (9 p.m., Amazon Prime).

Glasner looks at Naples

Liverpool, who won the FA Cup and League Cup last season and reached the Champions League final, have underperformed this season. The Klopp team is currently only bottom of the table.

Irrespective of the personnel debates about Krösche, Oliver Glasner is looking forward to the duel with Naples: “It will be a great evening against a very good team. We have an idea on paper and I know the lads will do everything to ensure that we come away as winners. That’s the goal, of course,” said the Eintracht Frankfurt coach.

The awe of sports director Krösche is also limited: “We have exactly the same chance as Naples.”
