Sad news from Turkey!
Turkish soccer professional Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan (28) died as a result of the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria. This was announced by his club Yeni Malatyaspor. The club previously wrote that Türkaslan was buried under rubble.
The club from the 2nd Turkish league writes on Instagram about a black and white photo of the keeper: “Our condolences! Our goalkeeper Ahmet Eyup Türkaslan lost his life after being buried under a collapse during the earthquake. May God have mercy on him, may his place be in heaven. We will not forget you.”
The wife of Türkaslan could still be rescued from the rubble, for the goalkeeper himself unfortunately any help came too late.
The keeper (with Yeni Malatyaspor since July 2021) was a teammate of German-born Baris Basdas (33), who was seriously injured trying to save himself. Basdas joined the Turkey club in February 2022 and has played with Türkaslan ever since.
Basdas’ advisor, Serdar Topcu, had received information about the situation of the native of Cologne from an acquaintance. Basdas jumped from his house on the second floor, injured his foot badly and is therefore in the hospital.
