Die Horror earthquakes in Turkey and Syria don’t stop at football either. The earth has been shaking again and again since last night, and more than 1,400 deaths have already been confirmed.
The football professional Baris Basdas (33), who was born in Germany, is also in mortal danger. He was injured in a desperate rescue attempt. In addition, his club Yeni Malatyaspor (plays in the second Turkish division) has already confirmed that teammate and goalkeeper Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan (28) was buried under rubble.
Now the club is also worried about Basdas.
Basdas’ advisor, Serdar Topcu, received information about the situation of the native of Cologne from an acquaintance. Accordingly, Basdas jumped out of his house on the second floor, seriously injured his foot and is therefore in the hospital. People there are still in mortal danger because there are always aftershocks.
Topcu on the current situation on site: “It’s terrible. Everyone is afraid of death. There will be several thousand dead.”
It was even worse for Basdas’ teammate Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan. The goalie was buried under rubble. His wife has since been rescued from the rubble. His current condition is not exactly known.
The club posted a photo of Türkaslan on Twitter and simply wrote: “Our prayers are with you.” Numerous fans commented on the post and sent their best wishes. There is still hope that he will survive.

Concerns about Basdas also continue – the central defender made 18 appearances for the 2020/2021 season Hannover 96 on. He then moved to Samsunspor and has only been with Malatyaspor since February 2022.
He was trained in youth by 1. FC Köln and Alemannia Aachen before moving to Turkey.
