De la Fuente, Ramos and the saddest age – The penultimate Raulista alive

The year was 1984. Ronald ReaganRepublican candidate for president of the United States of America, competed with Walter Mondale, the one chosen by the Democrats, to revalidate his mandate. Reagan, at 73, was already in fact the longest-serving US president in history, and Mondale, of course, found it impossible not to bite into that appetizing apple and ironically played with the age of his opponent. Reagan’s response appears collected by all analysts as one of the most original and forceful zascas in the history of television debates. He looked at the camera, smiled and said the following: “I am not going to make my age an issue in this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political reasons, the youth and inexperience of my opponent”. Even Mondale laughed. And in November, Reagan, 73, scored one of the most landslide victories of the US presidential election. Of course, someone may argue that, although it is important, age is not a fundamental factor in directing the greatest world power. And it is possible: 40 years ago, Reagan left office at the age of 77 and Joe Bidenwho is the current tenant of the White House, arrived in the oval office less than 3 years ago at the same age and is now 80. When I was born, the life expectancy of women was 72 and men 67 and today it is of almost 86 and 80 respectively: in 60 years, women have increased their life expectancy by 14 and men have done so by 13. That means that, around 2083, a woman’s life expectancy will be 100 years and that of a 93-year-old man. It is possible that Cristiano keep playing soccer for then.

If in life in general age discrimination, that is, ageism, makes little sense, what to say about professional sports. Luke Modricwho is 37 years old, comes from teaching at Anfield and in Madrid’s fifth goal he had enough energy to steal a ball from a boy much younger than him. You cannot discriminate against anyone because of the years and that is what Luis de la Fuente has apparently done today with Sergio Ramos, tell him that, whatever he does, however he plays and win the titles he wins, he will not return to the national team with him. And I do not understand. And it seems unfair. If what Ramos has said in his statement is true, and I have no reason to doubt, the current national coach has told him that he is not going to call him, and I put in quotes, “regardless of the level you can show”. How independently? Whether a footballer plays or doesn’t play must depend exclusively on his level, right?

How can I not believe that Louis of the Source is so incredibly clumsy, so absolutely big-handed as to get into this mess by himself, at the first opportunity, I have to deduce that it must have been someone else who made the decision for him. Yeah Luis Rubiales, a child at the baptism, a groom at the wedding and dead at the funeral, he also wants to be, in addition to being a child, a groom and a dead man, a national coach, let him say so. I hope the federation won’t get mad at me for what I’m going to say, but after this movement by a Luis signed by a different Luis, what do you want me to tell you, I can’t take anything that comes too seriously after. And it is that, in addition, I do not understand the need, honestly. You call the footballer, you lie to him and tell him that you’re counting on him, you don’t take him and, when he asks you for explanations, you tell him that you don’t see him well… and let the matter die. But, regardless of performance? Oh really? What factor is going to mark Luis de la Fuente’s calls from now on? The sympathy of the player? His hairstyle of his? A teeth whitening? Or that he gets along with Rubiales? Because, if it’s for the latter, warm up, Piqué, you’ll come out… I hope De la Fuente does well despite this monumental shit without even having started leading Spain. I wish, really. But, I’m sorry, I won’t be able to believe your calls. They tell me that Ramos is climbing the walls and, on this occasion, he is more right than a saint. It gives the impression that De la Fuente puts the card and another directs from above. And that, when someone else decides for you, it must be a very sad age.
