Champions League: Internal Bayern discussion about Thomas Müller Sports

Bayern star Thomas Müller (33) was not in the starting XI in FC Bayern’s 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain.

For the sixth time this season, the attacker was only on the bench, coming on in the 75th minute for Eric Maxim-Choupo-Moting (33).

Before the round of 16 first leg in the Champions League at Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) explained the reasons on “Amazon Prime Video”.

Nagelsmann: “We had a long discussion in the coaching team. The decision was more in favor of Choupo. We wanted to have a classic striker and Jamal behind him (Musiala, ed.). It was a close decision. We discussed and talked to him for a long time. It wasn’t a pleasant conversation, but that’s also part of my job profile. Thomas took it very well.”

And further said the Bayern coach. “If he comes in – and he will a lot of percent – he will make a very good game.”

Overall, Müller was allowed to start 16 of the 21 games this season.

Nagelsmann risked leaving the experienced Bayern player (138 games in the premier class) outside the Messi club for the time being.

But in the end the plan worked – even if things got very hectic in the final phase.

In the 57th minute, Kingsley Coman shot – as in the treble 2020 – FC Bayern to win against PSG. The second leg will take place in Munich on March 8th.
