The return of the World Baseball Classic after a six-year absence will be high-profile this spring, but fans won’t have to wait until next month to watch competitive baseball.
Days before pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for MLB spring training, the Caribbean Series is set to kick off in Venezuela. The 65th edition of the beloved competition will feature eight teams representing winter leagues in Latin America, two more than last year’s event in the Dominican Republic.
Colombia will be looking to defend their crown after surprising hosts Dominicans in the final, but this year’s home side will be fired up to qualify for what is sure to be a rowdy crowd in Caracas and La Guaira.
In addition to teams from these three winter leagues and substitutes from Mexico, Panama and Puerto Rico, this year’s event sees Cuba return to the competition and will also feature a team from Curacao.

2023 Caribbean Series Teams
The champions of eight winter leagues from across Latin America will compete in a round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals.
This year’s participants are:

- Cuba: Farmers
- Curacao: Wildcats KJ74
- Dominican Republic: Tigers du Licey
- Mexico: Caneros of Los Mochis
- Panama: Chiriqui Federals
- Puerto Rico: Mayaguez Indians
- Venezuela: Lions of Caracas
Notable players taking part this year include Robinson Cano (Dominican Republic), Wilson Ramos (Venezuela), Jonathan Schoop (Curacao) and Andrelton Simmons (Curacao).
