Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has been hired as defensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings.

This is what the ESPN network learned on Monday, specifying that the 41-year-old man had refused the position of head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and that of defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos.

Last year, Flores worked as a senior defensive assistant and linebacker coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He previously helmed the Dolphins from 2019 to 2021. As head coach, he maintained a 24-25 record.

In February 2022, Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and three of its teams for practices he deemed racist.

He claimed in particular to have been involved in a fake interview with the sole purpose of respecting the Rooney rule. The latter, implemented in the NFL in 2003, requires that each team seeking to fill the role of head coach, coordinator and general manager, interview at least one candidate from a visible minority.

Former “Cards” head coach Steve Wilks and longtime coach Ray Horton have since joined Flores. The dispute is still not settled.
