Bourges Basket eliminated from the Coupe de France on the Villeneuve-d’Ascq floor

The eye of our special correspondent

Suffocated by much more biting Northerners at the start of the match, Bourges Basket dragged their catastrophic start like a ball. Trailing 18-0 after six minutes, Tango took a long time to get into their first knockout game of the season. Without aggressiveness in the racket, clumsy to shoot, Élodie Godin and her teammates therefore spent almost half time watching Villeneuve-d’Ascq walk around (41-24, 20th). It was only after a three-pointer from Janelle Salaun, in the middle of the third quarter, that the alarm clock ignited, notably under the impetus of Yvonne Anderson (19 points in the second half). Little by little, Bourges reduced the gap (56-50, 30th) to finally stay alive at the dawn of the last ten minutes. But in a boiling Palacium, it was out of the question for Rachid Meziane’s players to drop the case. The Tangos have never managed to come back to a possession of their opponent and it is finally the most logical in the world that Villeneuve-d’Ascq validates his ticket for the semi-final (83-74). A stage of the competition that the TBB will not see for the first time since 2013.
