Belgium ratifies the departure of Thierry Henry

Peter Bossaert, general manager of the Belgian Federation, has just officially confirmed the end of the collaboration with Thierry Henry, former assistant to Roberto Martinez, yet supported by certain executive players like center-forward Romelu Lukaku. Martinez landed the same job in Portugal and was replaced in Belgium by the Italian-German technician Domenico Tedesco, 37, whose contract which runs until June 2024 was formalized this Wednesday morning.

Like Martinez, Thierry Henry had completed his second assistant contract with the Red Devils at the end of 2022, at the end of the World Cup in Qatar where Belgium was taken out in the first round of the event. “We thank Thierry Henry for everything he has done for Belgian footballindicated Bossaert. We were able to benefit from his experience. We love it. But he didn’t come to us (for a candidacy, as Henry himself had indicated). We especially want to thank him. It was exceptional that someone with his status was interested in our football. »

Vermaelen could continue

Released from RB Leipzig (ALL), with which he was under contract until June 2023, which explains his somewhat late induction, Domenico Tedesco has not yet revealed the identity of his staff members. It should be Andreas Hinkel (assistant) and Max Urwantschky (keepers). Both worked with him at Leipzig but have not yet agreed on the terms of separation with the German club.

The Belgian Federation would like to continue with another Martinez assistant, former central defender Thomas Vermaelen. “He impressed me with what he didsaid Bossaert. Our greatest wish is to continue with him. The composition of the staff is still under discussion, especially with Thomas. It is a monument for us and he too wants to continue the work undertaken. »
