Badminton Xàtiva wins ten medals in the territorial tournament held in the city

The Xàtiva Badminton Club won ten medals in the first TTR territorial tournament of the 2023 season in the Valencian Community, which took place last Saturday in the capital of the Costera. The tournament, held in the Francisco Ballester pavilion, was aimed at the sub-11, sub-15 and sub-19 categories, and the athletes from Seta they won two golds, two silvers and six bronzes. Some great results for the Xàtiva club, which adds new trophies to its particular medal table.

In the sub-15 category, Martina Molina took bronze in the individual event, after losing in the match for the pass to the final against Jimena Alonso, by 11-21 and 15-21. The same metal was achieved by Feliu Terol, who also lost in the semifinals, against Mateo Higueras, by 21-13 and 22-20. Martina and Feliu added another bronze, in the mixed doubles, after losing to Samuel Rodríguez and Jimena Alonso by 21-19 and 21-17. Xavi Roca, Meshack Martínez and Alexis Piñero also competed in the sub-15s, the latter two making their debut in a territorial tournament. A debut with a medal, since the two played the men’s doubles and came third, obtaining the bronze.

In the sub-19 category, the final of the men’s doubles had a color from Setabense, since the two couples that faced each other were from CB Xàtiva. David Polop and Vicent Molina faced the brothers Jesús and Marcos Cimas, with victory for the former by 21-16 and 21-10. Thus, David and Vicent achieved the gold and Jesus and Marcos the silver. In the mixed doubles, Andrea Orquín and Vicent Molina clinched the other gold for CB Xàtiva, after beating the CB Aspe couple made up of Félix Sanz and Sara Llopis 18-21, 21-15 and 21-17. In this same event, Carla Pérez from Seta participated together with Miguel Ángel Pelegrín. In the mixed doubles, Sarai Ramón and Ximo Torres came third, while in the women’s doubles Carla and Sarai came fourth.

In singles, Jesús Cimas lost in the semifinals against Adrián Gálvez, by 21-3 and 21-6; and Adrián himself beat David Polop from Setabo in the final, by 21-17, 16-21 and 21-15, thus clinching silver. Andrea Orquín was fifth in the women’s singles. In the sub-19 category, CB Xàtiva participated with eight athletes, five of them from a lower category.

The Xàtiva Badminton Club will play this weekend in Alfajarín (Aragón) the Under-13 and Under-17 Youth Masters, a competition in which Andrea Orquín from Setabé will participate, who will compete in the individual tests and in the women’s doubles under -17, in which he will play with his partner Claudia Gallego, from CB Infante de Murcia.

The Setabense club will also be in Vitoria, which from February 20 to 26 will become the epicenter of world parabadminton by hosting the Spanish Para Badminton International, which will bring together 329 athletes, including CB Xàtiva players Thomas Wandschneider and Selenia Pla. The latter will participate for the first time in a test of the International Parabadminton Circuit. Thomas and Selenia will compete in the singles and doubles events.

In addition, ten Badminton Xàtiva athletes will play this Saturday, February 18, the third day of the Jocs Escolars of the Valencian Community in the cadet category, which will be held in Campello. For their part, several athletes from Setabense will play the first day of the Absolute/Senior Autonomous Circuit that will take place this Sunday in Teulada.
