Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, a minister on the attack

PORTRAIT – In charge of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games since May 2022, “AOC” has had a tumultuous journey, since the incidents in the Champions League final, then with the scandals in the football and rugby federations.

The former tenniswoman will have been served. Since her appointment to the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games last May – a portfolio that was nevertheless reputed to be peaceful – Amélie Oudéa-Castéra has not left the spotlight. For weeks, she has faced in single combat the presidents of two of the most powerful federations of French sport, Bernard Laporte (rugby) and Noël Le Graët (football). For the first, convicted at first instance for corruption but who appealed against the judgment, the case is heard: he submitted his resignation. For the second, on the other hand, accused of sexual harassment and bad governance, charges which he disputes, the quarrel is in full swing and the minister is not satisfied with his recent “withdrawal” from the presidency of the FFF.

“AOC”, as it is nicknamed, has not known a state of grace. It had not been installed for a week before serious incidents occurred on the forecourt of the Stade de France during the final…
