Aixel Ramírez, bronze in the European Cup for cadets

New success of the martial arts of Gran Canaria, in this case within the specialty of judo. Aixel Ramírez Pérez, who was selected by the Spanish Federation to represent our country in the European Cup in the cadet category disputed in the Malaga town of Fuengirola (Málaga) brilliantly managed to hang the bronze medal in this international event.

The member of CD Bushican, at his young age (he is currently 16 years old), already has a successful career as a judoka. Champion of Spain for children in 2021 and national runner-up in his category in 2022, the island athlete is among the top three in the Spanish junior ranking, although he is still a cadet.

Aixel Ramírez, in what was his first international participation, emerged victorious in three bouts until reaching the quarterfinals, losing defeat in the semifinals and achieving victory in the duel for the third step of the podium.

Within the category of -90 kilos, which brought together twenty athletes, the Gran Canaria eliminated Tiago Jardim, from Portugal, in the first round. In his second confrontation he achieved victory against the French Daniel Kotche, fifth in the world ranking.

Already in the quarterfinals, Aixel Ramírez got rid of Bas Van Bilze, representative of the Netherlands. In the semifinals, the island athlete was not lucky. Another Spanish judoka, Guillem Lozano, separated him from the fight for gold. But this defeat did not discourage the member of the CD Bushican, who recovered in the confrontation for third place to overcome the Frenchman Avi Kelian Nwaha Ngon and finally hang the bronze medal in this European Cup in the cadet category. The man from Gran Canaria ends his stay in Malaga today, where he has been participating in a preparation stage in Fuengirola with the Spanish team.

In the international competition, another judoka from the island club also took part: Leonel Rodriguez. He participated in the -81 kilos category, with 36 athletes in contention. He began by winning the first match for Wazari against the French representative Dylan Grossir, but with a minute to go he was losing due to a pin and had no play-off options.
