Gastón Ramírez, in a surprising twist, will become a new River Plate player after reaching an agreement this Friday night.

The 32-year-old player, who was negotiating his arrival at the aurinegros until the last moment, achieved his Virtus Entella contract termination from Italy’s Serie C (Third Division) and ended up coming to fruition with the darseneros.

As reported by Fabián Motta, president of the club based in the Prado: “it will arrive in our country at the beginning of next week and the contracts will be formalized there until the middle of the season.”

Although the transfer market from club to club closed this Friday, upon arrival in a free condition, his arrival can be regularized at any time of the season.

The particularity is that by playing for River Plate, they will face Peñarol in the key duel of the Copa Sudamericana that will take place on March 7, where the winner will reach the group stage of said continental tournament.

In addition, he will have as teammates Walter Gargano, who resigned with the coalmen today and will join the club next week, the winger Ezequiel Busquets and the striker Hernán Rivero, all from the aurinegros.

Ramírez, in the middle of 2022, was released from Monza and began to sound for Peñarol, but finally, in October, he signed with Virtus Entella, a team in which he scored one goal and gave four assists in 16 games, spread over 763 minutes.

He began his career in 2009 and left in August 2010 for Italy, to defend Bologna. He also played for Southampton, Hull City and Middlesbrough in England, and Bologna, Sampdoria in Italy.
