RB Leipzig is a little disappointed, but hopeful after the hard-fought 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League against Manchester City (match report).
Thanks to a goal from Josko Gvardiol (70′), Riyad Mahrez (27′) was able to make up for the early deficit with a strong fighting performance in the second half.
The goal in the first half was preceded by a catastrophic bad pass from ÖFB team player Xaver Schlager. The Upper Austrian was quite self-critical after the game in the “Sky” interview.
Schlager: “It’s bitter that such a goal is created”
“Of course it’s my fault. Of course it looks stupid now, but if I don’t risk it we’ll never get forward. It’s just bitter that a goal like this is scored afterwards. I’ll learn from it, but I’ll play balls like that again and again “said Schlager, who was happy about the increased performance of his team after the change of sides.
“We analyzed the game and realized that we had done a lot of things wrong and tried to improve that. The second half was braver. Anything is still possible, we’re positive about the second leg.”
Team-mate Emil Forsberg echoed the same sentiments: “Anything is still possible. We showed in the second half that we are a very good team and we want to build on that again.”
The second leg will take place in Manchester on March 14th.
