A sixth dan at the Judo club in Revel

Last month, Pierre Ortala, president of the Judo club in Revel, was awarded the red and white belt of 6th dan (Editor’s note: a grade sanctioning 25 years of practice as a black belt) by his “godfather” Jacques Seguin, 8th dan , during the Kagami Biraki (vow ceremony) at the Judo Institute in Paris.

The grading took place in mid-November at this same judo institute and included a kata (koshiki no kata) and a technical program chosen by the candidate; in all 30 minutes of performance, which constitutes a rather complex physical and technical test. The jury, made up of 5 high-ranking 7, 8 or 9th dan is of course very demanding on technical accuracy. “You might think that judo is an individual sport but it is not. First of all, the commitment of the partners is essential. Yves Cadot (6th dan), the uke (Editor’s note: Japanese term designating the partner serving to demonstrate the technique) for the kata and his son Antoine, for the service uke of standing and ground technique, were the actors of this success. “Then the senior ranks of the Occitanie league, by organizing mock exams and opening their dojo to me (Ramonville, Saint-Orens, Dojo tonic) to facilitate training, also allowed me to reach this rank”, specifies Pierre Ortala. , judokas have obtained or are in the process of obtaining their 1st or 2nd dan black belt, the projects, in particular adapted sport, are well in place for this coming year.A very satisfied president and teachers.
