You will not be able to play the Euroleague with Red Star

The Cordovan point guard who had moved from the NBA to Europe is left out of the most important continental tournament until March.

Facundo Campazzo, brand new reinforcement of Red Star of Serbia, will not be able to play in the Euroleague at least until March due to a double sanction imposed on the Serbian club.

Bad news for the Cordoba point guard who is left out of the most important continental contest until the 28th of February.

The double penalty (economic and sports) was imposed by the Euroleague Finance Panel, after finding Red Star guilty of the Financial Stability and Fair Play Regulations.

The economic sanction would not seem to be a problem for the Serbs: 25,000 euros; but sports is hard: they cannot register any player or coach at least until next February 28. That is, Campazzo, out.

“The sanctions imposed consider the seriousness of the infringements, which included having past-due debts with players from current and previous seasons, as well as providing false or inaccurate information, which allowed the club to gain an undue competitive advantage and continue with its normal operations despite of an irregularity,” the Euroleague said in a statement.

“The Panel also considered the recidivism, since the Serbian club was previously sanctioned on two other occasions in recent years,” the letter continued.

Due to the sanction, reported this Wednesday, Red Star will not be able to register new basketball players until March 1, ahead of the final stages of the Euroleague.

Very bad news for the Cordovan, who signed in recent days after his irregular time in the NBA in the last three seasons.

As reported by some Balkan media, Red Star will seek appeal the sanction in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) to try to have all their reinforcements in the maximum continental competition at club level.

If the appeal is not successful, Campazzo would be able to debut in the Euro on Thursday March 2when the Serbs meet the German Bayern.

Then the Argentine could play another eight rounds of the regular league: Anadolu Efes, Panathinaikos, Barcelona, Baskonia, Valencia, ASVEL, Olympiacos and Fenerbahce before playing the quarterfinal Playoffs, if Red Star is among the top eight.
