Victor Perez 2nd behind Thomas Pieters at the Dubai Desert Classic

Wind, rain, the first day of the second Rolex Series tournament took place in complicated conditions. First suspended due to bad weather, the tournament is now stopped due to nightfall.

Only 12 players were able to complete the 18 holes. But that did not prevent Belgian Thomas Pieters from taking the lead at -5 alone. Stopped at hole 15, he made 6 birdies and a bogey: “The game was fair. It’s obvious that they protected against some conditions and moved a few tees forward on holes like 12, where you normally hit long irons and short wedges. It was hard to judge because the wind changed all day. I finish seven, eight, nine, tough holes. If I can finish with three pars, I will have had a very good first round. »

He is closely followed by the Frenchman Victor Perez and the Briton Tommy Fleetwood, both at hole 15 as well as Patrick Reed (hole 16), Matthew Jordan, Daniel Gavins and Oliver Wilson (hole 18), in 2nd position at -4.

Beyond the top 10, we find in 12th position at -2, the trio Romain Langasque (hole 14), Antoine Rozner (hole 16) and Rory McIlroy (hole 15). Julien Guerrier (hole 12) is in 28th position at -1 ahead of Victor Dubuisson (hole 9), 42nd in par.

Among the 156 field players, 66 could not start their first round including the French Julien Brun, Matthieu Pavon and Alexander Levy. The end of the first round will resume tomorrow at 5 a.m. (French time).
