Tottenham Hotspur: Conte leaves the future open – is Tuchel coming? – FOOTBALL

When football is no longer the most important thing in life…

Within a short period of time, Tottenham coach Antonio Conte (53) had to mourn the loss of three good friends. Now the Italian leaves his future in football open.

“When something like this happens, you have to think about it. Because we often only think about our work and forget about the family, we forget that we need more time for ourselves,” said Conte before the game at Manchester City (9 p.m., here in the live ticker).

What happened?

In October Conte died with Gian Piero Ventrone († 61), Tottenham’s fitness coach and a friend of Conte’s. Shortly afterwards, in December, Conte had to mourn the death of ex-professional Sinisa Mihajlovic († 53). succumbed earlier this month Gianluca Vialli (†58) his cancer.

Three bitter blows of fate in a row, a difficult situation for Conte. The coach explains his feelings: “Losing three people I knew very well in such a short time – first Gian Piero Ventrone, then Sinisa and now Gianluca. It was not easy. This season is a difficult season for me personally. Certainly this season makes me think about my future.”

Sporty things are not going well for Conte with the Spurs. His contract expires at the end of the season. The Tottenham bosses have the option to extend the contract by a year.

But will that happen? Questionable.

Tottenham is in a sporting low. There have only been two wins in the last six league games. On Sunday, the Londoners lost 2-0 to city rivals and leaders Arsenal. Spurs are fifth in the table, five points behind a place in the Champions League.

Should Conte actually take a break to have more time for the family – there is already speculation about possible successors.

As “The Evening Standard” reports, Thomas Tuchel (49) is one of the candidates for the Spurs. After his surprise ejection from Chelsea in early September, the German has yet to find a new club.

Accordingly, the ex-Bundesliga coach is “open” to an engagement. There has not yet been any concrete contact. But Tuchel could well imagine taking over a club again in the near future.

Most recently, the former Dortmunder was considered a serious candidate for the post in the “Three Lions”. In the meantime, however, it is clear that Gareth Southgate (52) will remain national coach even after England lost the World Cup in the quarter-finals. Furthermore, Tuchel was repeatedly associated with an engagement in Spain. He should already learn the language in order to be prepared.

However: In addition to Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino (50) is also traded as a possible Conte successor!

The Argentine left Paris Saint-Germain in July. Pochettino was the face of the “Spurs” from 2014 to 2019, but he was unable to win a major title. To change that, he should be able to imagine a return. He is also in regular contact with club boss Daniel Levy (60).
