This is the ATP ranking after the Australian Open 2023: number 1, classification and points

No one has sat on the throne of world tennis as many times as Novak Djokovic. After winning her 10th Australian Open and his 22nd Grand Slam, she returns to him. This Monday, the Serbian player will begin his 374th week as number one in the ATP ranking, with the intention of continuing to extend his record. He had not stepped on the cusp since June of last year. Then, after the elimination of the points at Wimbledon, she fell to 8th, his lowest since 2018. He has resisted everything and has come back stronger than ever. After the most turbulent season of his long and successful career, he begins 2023 with a double award. And giving a double blow to Spanish tennis: he ties Rafa Nadal, who falls to sixth position in the ranking, in the race to be the player with the most Slams in history and displaces Carlos Alcaraz, now second, from number one in the world, in possession of the El Palmar prodigy for 20 weeks. The jackal takes the lead again.

It is not the first time that Djokovic has struck twice. In total, the Serbian has managed to reach world number one after winning a Grand Slam three times (counting this one). The first was at Wimbledon 2014, after beating Roger Federer in the final. The second, for his part, would not take place until six years later, when Nole beat Dominic Thiem in Australia to achieve what, until today, was his last Oceanic Slam. “It has been one of the most difficult tournaments of my life considering the circumstances, without being able to be there last year, coming back this year. The people have made me feel very good on the return. It is one of the reasons why I have played some of the best tennis of my life”, declared Djokovic after his 10th Australian crown. He missed her. Along with the Serbian, during this century, only three other players have managed to come out of a Grand Slam with the double prize of reaching the top: Roger Federer (Wimbledon 2009 and 2012), Nadal (Roland Garros 2010) and Alcaraz (US Open 2022).

Along with the rush of Nole, who landed in Melbourne as number 5 in the world, comes the fall of Nadal (6th), outside the top-5 for the first time since January last year, just before his epic title in Australia. His elimination in the second round meant a loss of 1,955 points and even jeopardized his stay in the top-10, on the air for the next few weeks. His defense will depend, to a large extent, on how his left leg injury progresses, which will keep him off the slopes, if deadlines are met, until March, just before Indian Wells (March 8-19), where last season he was runner-up. Among the ten best in the world, precisely, the return of finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas to the podium stands out, tying his best position ever. Like the Greek, Andrey Rublev (5th) and Taylor Fritz (8th) have also risen to their top so far. Holger Rune, ninth, continues to improve his record in the ranking.

The Navy remains

Beyond Alcaraz and Nadal, Spanish tennis, despite losing positions in the global calculation, maintains its good health within the ranking. After the two best positioned national players, is Pablo Carreño, who only loses one position (16th) despite his early fall in Australia. Roberto Bautista, knocked out by Tommy Paul in the round of 16, gains a place up to 24th place and Alejandro Davidovich, also surpassed by the American, remains static as 32nd. Like the Malagueño, Albert Ramos (37th) does not move either. Jaume Munar (67th), Pedro Martinez (71st), Bernabeu Zapata (74th) and Roberto Carballes (76th) they close the presence of the Navy in the top-100, which amounts to ten representatives.
