The story of Ainhoa Etxeberria: she takes the MIR exam while her colleagues have a key meeting

Ainhoa Etxeberria He is facing one of the most important duels of his career. No, it is not a League or European Cup final, nor a key match for his Lobas, a team of which he is a part. The Basque pivot faces the MIR (Resident Internal Physician) exam this Saturday while the Oviedo team is measured in Sagunto al Morvedre, a match between first and second in the women’s Gold Honor Division. “Even though I have the exam, I will be very aware of them. I have already notified my parents that when I leave the exam I want to know how they are doing,” confesses Etxeberria, who is looking forward to finishing the test to clear her mind and be able to think about her classmates. .

“I arrived in Oviedo in June and handball has been my salvation,” acknowledges the pivot, who had to leave her native San Sebastián to land in Asturias in search of a position as a resident doctor. “For me, handball is the best. I’ve been linked to it for more than ten years and it’s my method to distract myself and stop thinking about the notes,” explains the woman from San Sebastián, who during the months in which Lobas did not compete “was at about to go crazy.” Her schedule confirms it. She gets up at 6:30 a.m. and studies until 2:00 p.m. After stopping to eat, she then has three hours of classes and, after training, she goes back to review until bedtime. “Handball helps me to get out of the routine and to change scenery. I went to the gym, but it’s not the same. I needed that team dynamic,” she says.

In the beginning his mother did not agree with the decision to join the Lobas, since he considered that it could harm him when studying, but Etxeberria was clear about it. “She preferred me to focus exclusively on the MIR. I come from Bera Bera, the current league champions, with what that entails with travel, level of training and so on. I told her that I was only going to go to training here , but in the end they made me a record and I couldn’t help it”, says the Basque player, very grateful for the facilities that have been provided by Lobas Oviedo. For her, being able to be part of the team dynamics has been key when facing study hours. “The first time I didn’t think about the MIR was in a friendly for the Asturias Cup against Balonmano Siero. I needed something like that. During those two hours my head was only with handball and it was a liberation”, affirms the player of the group oviedo

Although the difference between the Bera Bera and the Lobas is great, Etxeberria appreciates the change, since now his sights are set on the MIR. “Right now handball is to avoid me, I’m not being so demanding. I like to be at my best level, but right now all that self-demand is placed on the MIR”, points out the player, who although she notices the contrast in the level, does not she has stopped to think about it, since she is focused on having a good time.

On Saturday at 3:00 p.m., Etxeberria has to be at the El Cristo Law School, where he will face an exam lasting more than four hours that will mark his future. “I hope to pass, I really want to get it out of the way. I have been studying for many months and I just want the exam date to pass. Let what has to come out come out. I hope to get the necessary grade to go to a place that makes me happy” , wants the pivot, who, although her future is at stake, will not be able to avoid being aware of her teammates. “I wish the game was here. My parents are going to come to support me during the exam and I have already told them that when I leave I want them with my cell phone so they can tell me what the game is about. I can’t wait to finish the exam so I can play with Lobas” , sentence.
